How to use the SRT Joiner

  1. Drop two or more files. Drag the rows in the table, or use the arrows, to put them in playback order.
  2. The table shows each file’s cue count, end time and the offset that is added so it starts after the previous file.
  3. If the video files have a gap or intro between them, set Gap between files in seconds. You can also edit the offsets manually.
  4. Press Join files and download the result.

How offsets are calculated

When two parts of a film are joined, the second part’s subtitles must move forward by the length of the first video. The tool uses the end time of the last cue of file 1 as the default length, plus your gap. Because the last subtitle usually ends before the video does, the real offset might be a few seconds longer; if that is the case, enter the exact length of the first video in the offset box.

Getting the exact offset

  1. Open the first video file in your player and read its total length.
  2. Type it into the offset column for file 2 (for example 0:47:12.480).
  3. Join and check a line near the start of part two.

If part two is slightly off afterwards, nudge it with the timing shifter.

Common uses

  • Merge subtitle files for a movie that has been split in two parts.
  • Combine several episode parts into one subtitle for a compilation.
  • Rebuild a file after translating it in separate chunks, together with Split SRT.

Mixed formats

Files in different formats can be joined: they are parsed and the output uses the format of the first file (SRT in most cases). Cue numbers are regenerated, so the final file is numbered continuously from 1.

Example: joining CD1 and CD2

CD1’s video is 0:52:10 long and its last subtitle ends at 0:52:03. Dropping both files, the default offset for CD2 is 0:52:03 plus your gap. Type 0:52:10 into the offset box instead to match the actual video length, join, and a CD2 cue at 0:00:20 will appear at 0:52:30 in the combined file. Check the first line after the join in your player — it is the quickest test of the offset.

Frequently asked questions

Can I join more than two files?

Yes. Add as many as you like; each starts after the previous one plus the gap.

What if the files have overlapping times?

Offsets are applied before joining, so overlaps only occur if you enter offsets smaller than the previous file’s length.

Can I change the order?

Yes — use the up/down arrows in the table.

Can I join SRT and VTT?

Yes, the formats are converted as needed.

Will cue numbering be fixed?

Yes, numbering is rebuilt from 1.

Is the data sent anywhere?

No. It stays in your browser.
